Pregnancy Weight Gain 18 Weeks

Identifying Warning Signs of Pregnancy Danger
Author: Gem Villamin
For many pregnant women and expectant parents, the whole pregnancy phase is fraught with physical and emotional changes. Pregnancy should be the time for women to be vigilant of their health. Pregnancy complications are not uncommon and while most problems may be relatively mild and can be immediately treated, in other cases, warning signs can carry some significant health risks to the child, mother and possibly both.
Although it is generally advised for pregnant women to have frequent doctor visits, it is equally important to be aware of the possible danger signs to look out during pregnancy. These include the following signs:
a¢ Vaginal bleeding
a¢ Sudden weight gain
a¢ Fever
a¢ Chills
a¢ Seeing Spots
a¢ Persistent headache
a¢ Burning sensation when urinating
a¢ Vomiting
a¢ Blurred and/or double vision
a¢ Lower abdominal pain
a¢ Thigh pains
a¢ No baby movements for 12 hours
a¢ Premature cramping
a¢ Persistent lower back aches
a¢ Nausea
Miscarriage
Bleeding during the first trimester can be a sign of possible miscarriage. According to statistics, about 20 percent of pregnancies end in miscarriage. These incidents usually occur when a woman is not aware that she is pregnant. Clots, bleeding and cramping are among the most common signs of miscarriage.
Ectopic Pregnancy
There are some cases, the fertilized egg may not reach its correct position in the uterus and the embryo grows on the fallopian tube. Since it grows on the abnormal location, it causes tear in the blood vessels and delicate structures. It is known to display the following symptoms: low back pains, nausea, lower abdominal pain, and cramping. This can require surgery to remove the nonviable embryo.
Premature Labor
One of the most common problems of pregnancy is premature labor and delivery. Babies born prematurely run the high risk of having some respiratory problems and underdeveloped lungs.
Hypertension
Elevated blood pressures are a common complication that occurs in 3 percent of the pregnancies. It can cause some adverse effects on the placenta as well as the fetus. Severe elevation of the blood pressure can cause pain in the abdomen, fluid retention , seeing spots and headaches.
when do u start gaining weight during pregnancy I’m am 18 weeks i only gained 5 pounds my 16th week?
depends on the person. i started around 22wks. you really shouldnt gain much in your first trimester. after you hit maybe 20 wks, then you should start gaining some pounds.
18 weeks pregnant – weight gain?
I’m currently 18 weeks pregnant and am showing to have gained 8 lbs. I am told to weigh myself once a week, however, I find myself weighing myself everyday. One day I’ll have gained 5 lbs, then I’m down to 4, then I’m up to 8.. it fluctuates.
I started my pregnancy out overweight so my doctor doesn’t want me to gain too much.. meaning to only gain between 15-25 lbs.
I’m like freaking out.. I don’t want to gain too much weight. I’m not eating a bunch of sweets, I eat a lot of salads, sandwiches, water, etc… I could eat better but I’m not eating badly. I’ve actually changed my eating habits quite a lot. I do have my cravings of sweets.. but most of the time I don’t act upon them.
My doctor told me not to obsess about it.. but someone who has an issue with weight her whole life and is told to watch my weight.. I’m going to obsess about it. I walk occasionally.. and could walk more..
So with all that said, is 8 lbs too much to gain for 18 wks pregnant?
Thanks for your help
I am 18 weeks pregnant, i weighed myself for the first time since my 12 weeks midwife appt yesterday, and I too have put on 8lbs.
From what I can see its on the lesser side of average-most places suggest a gain of about 10-13lb by this point, but this obv depends on your pre pregnancy weight (I was the smaller end of ideal BMI when i conceived)
Try this link-its a projected weight gain calender-i used the baby center one yesterday but cant for the life of me find it now, but i think this one works on the same principal, and gives you a chart after inputting your own personal stats, showing your ‘line’ next to an average and you can see how you compare.

But right now, weight loss is not on the agenda-if you put on more weight than the doctor reccomends, so be it. You can lose the weight after the baby arrives. Just carry on eating healthily and all will be well
Good luck!
18 Weeks Weight Gain?
Just curious..
I gained 10 pounds throughout my pregnancy
I was 115,
Now im 125 is that normal?
Its normal all women put of different amounts of weight
When do most women gain the majority of their weight during pregnancy?
I am 28 weeks and 3 days and so far, i’ve gained 18 lbs. most people say that these next two months are crucial and thats when to watch out. some people have told me not to worry that the worst is over. which is right?
Just eat like a normal person. Do not over indulge just because you’re eating for two and eat healthy foods such as Lean meat, whole grains and fruits and veggies. watch out for high carbs and sugars, and keep moving! dont turn into a coach potatoe just because your pregnant. Now is the time to stay active and take walks. It is hard to lose the extra weight after the baby is born if you gain more than you should. Just stay healthy.
18 weeks and not gaining weight?
I am 18 weeks almost 19 weeks and my tummy is getting a little bigger, but weight is just about the same as before.
I was about 118-120 before pregnancy (26″ waist), gained 2-3 lbs in first/beginning of second trimesters(29-ish inches), and still at 120/122-ish?
How much weight should I have gained so far?
Is this unhealthy?
How should I gain the weight if I need to?
Any weight gaining(for baby, not fat) tips?
i. Eat more calories
This involves some calculation. The approximate normal daily caloric requirement for an average male who performs light activity is 2,200; for a female, it is 1,900.You need to eat around 1,000 extra calories per day to gain less than half a kilo a week.
Do the math. Eat larger portions and eat at least five meals a day.
Your actual caloric requirement can differ depending on your height, weight, activity level and your body’s metabolic rate.
ii. Make smart choices
For example, choose dairy products, Eat foods with high protein content such as beans, pulses and peas, and foods with high starch content such as potatoes, rice and tapioca.

One hour spinning = perfect body
iii. Protein is important
Increase your protein intake. Your body needs a lot of protein to build new muscle. But since most of the calories for weight gain comes from carbohydrates and fats, do not replace them with protein.
iv. Snack a lot
Consume a lot of high-calorie snacks (not junk food) such as cheese sticks, milk shakes, muffins, dried fruits, yoghurt and breakfast bars.

v. Fluids help too
Drink a lot of fluids that supply nutrients and calories; milk, fresh fruit juices and energy drinks are good examples.
vi. Intensify workouts
Aerobics are great, right? Not for weight gain!
You need to exercise really hard and intensely to gain muscle mass.

Is walking better than running?
vii. Weights are the way to go
Focus on free weight exercises (which do not require machinery) that target your large muscle groups. For example, you need dumbells, not fancy gym machines.
Free weights put the most stress on muscles and stimulate the maximum number of muscle fibres.
The best weight training exercises for building muscle mass are free weight exercises like squats, dead lifts, bench presses, barbell rows, pull ups and bar dips.
These exercises are best done under supervision, but they don’t need machinery.
viii. Space out your workouts
If you have a high basic metabolic rate — which means you expend a lot of energy even at rest — you need short intense workouts instead of long periods of low-stress activity.

Are carbs bad for you?
ix. Creatine?
Creatine supplements can help some athletes gain weight. It is not known if it is because it gives them spurts of energy or because it adds water weight.
More research is needed in this area before Creatine becomes that magic pill. Creatine supplements are available at all major health food stores, but do not take it without consulting your doctor.
x. Be consistent
It might take a long time, usually a few months, for the weight to actually show. Some people get frustrated and quit when they fail to see drastic results.
Your body will only responds to a consistent schedule. No weight gain programme will work for you if you are not regular.
Heredity does pay a major role in determining your weight. Effective weight training and a smart diet can help you exceed your genetically predetermined weight.
pregnancy and weight gain… ?
I am currently 18 weeks tomorrow! WOO HOO!!! Anyway, I have gained no weight, actually I lost weight, 5-7 lbs to be exact! My baby is growing, I get an ultrasond every visit! My next appt. is on the 18th but still no weight gain… Why? I eat so much
Well the baby is probaly only 4-6 pounds at moment and you are probaly eating more then normal so you should’ve gained a few pounds, but losing 5-7 pounds is odd. Most likely weight scale that got you first time or second time or whatever time was wrong and if not, you must be eating alot healthier, excersizing more, or something daily changed making you lose weight somehow. Whatever it is it’s something to be wondering about and asking doctor but not worried too much, I doubt it’ll make a big change in the baby nor you. GOOD LUCK!
pregnancy weight gain ?
I started out at 140lbs and now I weigh 160. I am 22 weeks pregnant and my doctor says “just don’t gain more than 30 lbs” I am already at 20 lbs. What should I do? Has anybody heard of a modified south beach diet (phase2)? I am an active person and I don’t eat a ton of crap but I have my occasional treat. Any suggestions? Can I go another 18 weeks without gaining more than ten pounds?
